I took my son to The Antioch Group in Peoria, IL, for therapy and had a frustrating experience. We paid for 50-minute sessions, but during the first visit, the therapist only spent 25 minutes with my son and suggested testing him. When I asked what the test was for, the therapist vaguely mentioned “the spectrum” but couldn’t provide a clear answer. It felt like a money grab.

At the next appointment, the therapist was 20 minutes late and again spent only 25 minutes with my son, yet we were charged the full session price. This left me feeling like they prioritized profit over care.

I canceled all future appointments, and when the office called to confirm, I reiterated my decision. Despite this, I received a bill for a missed appointment weeks later. I emailed the office to dispute the charge and was told to speak directly with the therapist. After emailing the therapist and providing the requested information, I never heard back. I assumed the issue was resolved, but a month later, I got a call threatening to send the bill to collections.

I paid the bill today to avoid further issues, but I’m deeply disappointed by the lack of professionalism and the disorganized handling of my situation. This experience felt like a series of money grabs rather than genuine care for my son’s well-being.

I did talk therapy and EMDR therapy here for 2 years and it gave me a new lease on life. I saw 2 different therapists and both ladies were exceptional and professional. They took my insurance and I paid a set copay for each visit. Everyone in the office was always very nice. I never had a bad experience in the 2 years I went here. I only stopped going because I moved out of state. They have therapists who specialize in many different areas depending on what you specifically need.

I’m shocked at the bad reviews!
I noticed most were from years ago.
I have had NOTHING but excellent care there for over a year now from my interactions with the receptionist to billing and the counseling itself.
If you are looking for someone to truly help you and care for you through some rough places I highly recommend Kyle!!
I am in a much better place today because of Kyle’s wisdom and care.

I hesitated to write a review because mental health is such a sensitive subject and unfortunately we all too often have to find help wherever we can get it. However, this is not a place I would recommend if you have ANY other options. I would definitely try those options first. The billing department is a total joke and they seem to do whatever they feel like doing on any given day and there's no rhyme or reason to it. I NEVER received a SINGLE BILL from them for OVER 14 MONTHS from my last visit! Then I received a $245 bill that they wanted paid all at once of course. No explanation as to why I was now receiving a bill. No nothing. Even though my therapist, Pat, told me I wouldn't have copays, apparently they can change their mind at any given time and decide to bill you whenever they feel like it. Be very careful and don't take anyone's word for anything no matter how good their intentions may seem at the time. GET EVERYTHING IN WRITING!! And definitely don't expect any assistance from the billing department.

The billing department is absolutely terrible and rude. It’s like a Sunday church crowd as a server. I told them to bill one insurance first over my secondary. Several times, and I have record of this. Once the insurance got messed up from wrong billing, they didn’t want to fix their mistake. They just threaten to send it to collections, even when I specifically stated that they needed to bill one insurance first. Find a better counselor service. There are much better people out there.

Great personal there. Friendly and intelligent. I don't want to say the reason I was there, but I hope they're of help. I worry about needing help, let alone help such as what they bring. My family are my world. They're hopefully going to help part of my world. While there I did notice a lot of other people coming there. That tells me a lot about them with being busy. We're just starting there. We'll see how this goes.

They say you gotta pay $1400 up front for a evaluation with insurance. I was told by insurance that you don't. Ask your insurance company first before you go here. You don't have to pay $1400 they are known for this. Wouldn't go here because they just care about the money being there up front. Won't be returning here.

Receptionist lacked comprehensive ability for understanding the purpose of the inquiry. Resulting in repeating herself without answering the inquiry.
Obviously, this resulted in her becoming irritated and short, and offered to direct me to the owners voicemail in order to deflect.

This is certainly not the mental and emotional composure needed in a facility that offers these services. In fact, it can be seen by many as cold, ignorant and/or hurtful. As such, with that said, if its not helpful, it is "hurtful".

However, I took this in kind stride, so I called back (after leaving a voicemail for the owner) to apologize for having irritated her, and hopefully relay that due to being impressed with the services offered, I was simply doing my best to understand what I need to do in order to benefit from the services.
The other receptionist answered, I explained my reason for calling, and I was told she was on a call literally when I heard her finish the call in the background. I maintained a kind heart and said I don't mind holding. Not even 5 seconds later I'm told that she will be busy for a couple hours with a client.
Of course I thought (and expresses politely with lighted humor in my tone) "a receptionist is going to be busy with a client for a couple hours? I honestly had a soft chuckle, like really? 🤣🧐
The older woman said "well she helping the client with paperwork that'll take some time." I responded "a couple hours?" The older woman said "well, she'll be busy for quite awhile, its a lot of paperwork".
It was already clear that she didn't have the composure to interact in a mature manner, but I thought I'd try my best to raise positivity above any any unconscious practice of negative. Clearly, if it isn't the standard simple "can I make an appointment" it's not acceptable.

Maybe a different line of work or at least a different kind of facility that doesn't offer sensitivity services would be more suitable for her.
As well, it would certainly be good for patients to avoid this type of character behavior, given the nature of the services.

Suffice it to say, I was unable to accomplish finding out how I (as an autistic individual who has no income) but medicaid can get the necessary steps addressed to join treatment at this facility. And to be honest, that factor does hurt my feelings, resultung in feeling a bit of despair.
But, one must keep moving with a focus on goals if to grow and evolve!
