I have to submit a positive review, the staff were all super helpful and though they had their hands full, they never lost their cool I came out of the inpatient feeling like a ton of weight and burden were lifted off of me. You only see your case manager a couple times, but if you request to see them you can, same with the counselor. I got my meds regulated and got a nice chunk of time to reflect, they have activities available pretty much all day. Honestly this was an amazing team, not once did I feel they were looking down on me, I felt heard. Thank you so much for getting me back on my feet again. It was like going for an 8 day breath of fresh air. I only wish they had fans in the bedroooms..😅

My experience with this behavioral hospital was both good and bad. The staff were great on helping me whether it was a panic attack or my anxiety and depression were really bad. I came into this facility non verbal because everytime I’d say anything I would have a panic attack. I wasn’t eating or drinking anything for almost a week. I wasn’t in the darkest of darkest. I left talking their ears off. ( im sorry yall ) However, many patients in these hospitals are on their journey too but some are addicts who were put in a facility to get medication they can’t get in rehab. So amongst the jumping the counters at the nurses because they won’t give them the med they want or the fighting over nicotine patches and gum. I really wish they had a specific unit for suicidal ideation, depression, anxiety separate from other mental health needs.

I’ll start with the positives- the people (other patients) I met were great. I made friends I expect to be lifelong friends. The patients really take care of each other. A couple of staff members were great. (Aurora, Brittany, Abraham, and Ru are fantastic.)

For the negative
there is a lot. This is *not* the place to go if you want any individual help or really any help beyond meds. I saw my social worker twice and didn’t actually have much time to talk besides just answering questions she was required to ask. I saw my provider most mornings but it was just a 30 seconds or less check in.

A lot of the staff were awful. The lack of help they give patients I truly believe is unethical. A man threw up on himself in the cafeteria and we, the patients, had to help him and clean him up while the staff just stood around watching. This same patient was SO overly medicated that he could barely stand, he was constantly falling over or needing to lay down just because he was so ill from his meds. He kept asking for them to lower his meds but they kept saying he’d adjust- all while he could barely function and was told his release date was in a couple days. He throws up often, has an open wound that staff have neglected to care for, and is a fall risk. We truly were worried that he would die while on the unit.

A friend needed his insulin and was denied it for 3 hours, he literally could have died in that time. I witnessed him incredibly patiently and kindly ask them repeatedly for help and they kept pushing it off.

A new patient came in very unhinged and tried to solicit sex from multiple women before threatening a lot of us with physical violence. He was moved to the more intensive unit after this but we were told after that there was an error with the paperwork and he was supposed to be on the more intensive unit originally anyways. This was a major oversight and put many of us in danger- especially the women on the unit as our unit is a little more lax so if he got someone alone he could have done something really scary.

The groups honestly were severely lacking. They are far too short and give very basic information- anyone who has been in therapy would know the info already. There is no individual therapy or care so the very least they could do is make sure that groups are better to help patients go home with some more knowledge.

THREE different people’s phones went missing while I was there. One was found eventually, one still is missing, and the 3rd I never got an update on. Personal belongings going missing while they’re in the care of the staff is really worrisome. We aren’t allowed to keep these items with us, the least they could do is make sure those items are kept safe.

The staff also gossip with patients about other patients. It’s super unprofessional and very concerning, they are not HIPAA compliant in the least.

This should only be a last resort option for people who need to be kept safe from themselves if there is nowhere else to go.

i was a patient here and i was on my period. i am very allergic to most pad brands but for some reason don’t have issues with tampons. they refused to let me use tampons and i had to use a washcloth like a woman in the 60’s and it was painful too. absolutely unbelievable and insanely unprofessional. demonstrates a complete lack of caring for patients and their wellbeing and heath

This place not only is a joke for mental health services BUT they don’t actually care about their patients well being!

Based on the week I was there it seems like they try to make their voluntary patients lose their minds in there so that they HAVE to be detained for longer than the allotted time there. Initial stay is 7-10 days but they don’t actually give you a discharge date AND they always beat around the bush when you ask them questions about it.

They don’t let you read the consent forms just have you sign them and when you ask to read it so you can read the fine print they either look at you weird or again, try to beat around the bush.

A voluntary patient is supposed to be able to sign themselves out whenever they want to because again, they are there VOLUNTARILY but you’ll soon learn that is absolutely not the case. That you need a DOCTOR to sign off on it. While some of the providers there are good about sending their patients home once they actually sit down and talk to them there are other providers who do NOT. Providers who try to threaten their patients with calling DCR (designated crisis responders) and basically threatening that they’ll get detained if they act out. It took ME having to threaten THEM with calling DCR for them to finally take me serious.

I was told on Monday (02/03/25) that I would be discharged as soon as the provider put in the word so I asked if I could call my ride because I live 2 hours away from this place. I was told yes to call them and then 2 hours later I was told to tell my ride to turn around because I was “never told to call your ride” and that in order for her to release me she’d have to call DCR and go through that whole process. So not only were they playing with MY time but they were playing with my FAMILY’S time! I finally said if they didn’t discharge me the next day then I would be calling DCR myself and lo and behold I WAS DISCHARGED THE NEXT DAY!!

Some of the nurses there were also confused as to why I was still there because I didn’t need to be and they told me to call DCR myself if I wasn’t discharged the next day. The care of the patients is trash and sometimes the patients don’t get their meds when they’re supposed to be getting their meds!

I witnessed a patient having a seizure and it was the patients who ran to her and turned her on her side. The nurses took their time getting to her (and they have to come out from behind the desk through a door), they took their time calling for help. She ended up having 4 seizures back to back because they just took their time trying to help her.

One of the charge nurses was trying to convince me to talk my mother down when she started threatening to call DCR which was weird to me too. They only allow visitation on certain days and for certain times. When I had a panic attack during the night I was given a book to calm myself down. They asked what I needed and I told them I needed my mom. I asked if I could make a phone call (clearly in a panicked state and sobbing) even though I knew it was past phone hours. I asked if I could make the call IN FRONT of them and not on the phones the patients use. I was willing to talk and cry in front of these people so they see I’m not just calling anyone but I wasn’t allowed and only given a book until I stopped hyperventilating.

This was the WORST and LONELIEST week of my LIFE!! I went in for help with one thing and not only did I NOT receive the help I was looking for I had to basically fight for my own rights to leave! I spoke up on everything and nobody listened until I started losing my temper on them. I shouldn’t have had to thug it out in a place that is supposed to HELP your mental health!

To anyone who is looking to voluntarily walk in as a patient in this place DON’T❌because they won’t let you out when YOU want to be let out.

Smokey Point Hospital is a soft place to land.
Light Psychiatric care, and nice nursing staff. Medication is provided on time and with care.

The food is industrial and the cafeteria could be cleaner. But short staffing is an issue. It does the job. Snack time on the ward was helpful

The beds and pillows left a lot to be desired! But the showers were hot. They need to put up hand rails! Slippery so be careful.
Group meetings were short and ok if you put in the work also

This is a place to go for brief, helpful care. Not for serious illness that requires more than brief Psych consulting and meds.

For myself it worked! The other patients became family, the nursing staff were kind, one of the therapists set up my after care Justin was awesome.

This place is horrible and extremely unprofessional. first of all the assessment took hours and I had to sleep in a room filled with garbage. And they said they'd find a rehab for me and it turned out the rehab wouldn't take me because of my mental health issues and legal record. I was there for 11 days and they wasted all that time on nothing, they didn't even look into the rehab fully. and my provider was yelling at me because it was taking me awhile to get into rehab like how is it my fault?! I'm the patient here hello? I don't have the freedom to research rehabs in the area. And he said okay you wanna talk like that? We'll discharge you today without rehab. And he said that like it was a punishment or something. The case manager told Me she'd give me a sheet of rehab facilities to look into and she never did because she was always too lazy to talk to me. This place fails youth. DO NOT COME HERE EVER!

Just got out of there (NE2?) and it SUCKED.
I arrived late and had to wait like 4 hours just to get interviewed by someone on zoom then got skin checked and sent up to a room. I had to dig once through the trash out of fear I threw my spork away because I was told they might do skin checks (Which i HATE) only to remember I never got a spork

Right before I left some girl screamed that she got raped and then showed the bruises to prove it when she was supposed to be SAFE in there. Then before all that ever happened people were getting in screaming matches and even physical fights, people were screaming and slammed doors so much and they put 20 kids in a room and expect them to improve but there is SO much bullying in there and I only got WORSE in there its such a horrible experience for mentally ill children, I would not recommend anyone send a child there.

I tried to tell my provider I didn’t feel safe there but he just upped my anxiety meds and checked 2 days later when I was already about to LEAVE. I did not see much of him or my therapist.

Not only that but they did not tell me which meds I was taking or their side effects

Go up
