Beautiful facility but lacking in one thing: serious books. Admittedly it's a community library catering to, first and foremost, schoolkids, but walking around one is struck by the preponderance of cliched titles on trite low-brow topics, somewhat shocking in a town with as many highly educated professional residents as New Canaan, but probably like turning on the TV or going to the movies, just another reflection of the sad state of modern American culture. The history section is little more than a joke, with the entire compendium of English history consisting of maybe 40 books of which probably only ten can be considered up to date and/or serious. May I suggest that one or more of the librarians make a point of dropping by the book sale section of St Mark's Mayfair each year where sometimes for as little as a dollar a title one can find an outstanding selection of serious books, meaning that for an outlay of say only $100 the library could toss the entire existing embarrassing English history section and replace it with one actually worth reading. That's a local resource worth tapping into, just saying.

A lovely janitor/cleaner man who saw me and my friends banging against the doors when we forget out bags inside at closing time. He gave us back out backs ( of course makes us show proof it was ours) and was a great help! Give this man a raise!

An absolutely gorgeous public space with plenty of room for everyone. From a coffee shop and children’s library in the bottom level, to a more leisurely sitting area with couches and a faux fireplace, to quiet computer areas, with tables, private rooms and soaring windows; this library has it all. The staff are super friendly and helpful. The New Canaan Library is a wonderful public resource.

The new state-of-the-art library is New Canaan's best treasure. I am confident the library will be enriching the lives of everyone who visits in one way or another. We are truly lucky to have such a beautiful library in New Canaan.

It has great potential, but patrons sometimes are incredibly noisy and staff doesn't seem to put any limit. If you need a quiet place to work or study you had better try another library: people sitting next to you might be answering phone calls, teenagers will chat and laugh loudly all the time. You will not find refuge in the "quiet study room" upstairs either, because it's not acoustically insulated and some of the readers might be listening to some terrible music track on their earphones.

The New Canaan library staff are very lovely. I have been there several times by now. Never have I ever experienced what other people are saying in other reviews. No one was but friendly and caring to me there. New Canaan library is an amazing place to be at! However, the constant noise is what I'm concerned the most. I tried taking a practice SAT test at the library, but I couldn't complete it. Kids and adults would carelessly talk either on the phone or with other people. Although I was supposed to be in a quiet area, I could hear every single noise around.
You must understand that the SAT is a timed exam, meaning that I really need to concentrate on what I'm reading, and on each question. If people are talking, or doing whatever that could be distracting, it's gonna be way much harder for me to perform well on this practice test -- let alone complete the questions in the time I'm supposed to. Yes, the library do offer a 90 minutes quiet room. However, I'm taking a 3 hours test. 90 minutes is not enough for me.
Something should be done about this. I can't stand noises when it comes to studying, reading, or taking a 3 hours practice test.
This is the only negative side about New Canaan Library; it is really disappointing because you expect the library to be a quiet place, not otherwise.
People won't stop talking, kids would run around, phones would be ringing! What's the point of quiet areas if people around are gonna be talking anyway? Not that I could politely ask them to be quiet either. If I stood for every person that talks at the library, first I would have to re-read whatever I was reading in order to properly respond the question I was on, and second I would have to squad a lot.
This place is amazing, but for the fact that everyone is loud.

All chairs but two have been taken out of the Children's section, despite the other areas having plenty. The room with desks and chairs we used to take our children's books to to read has been taken over by video screens promoting donations to the new building. We hesitate to use the two adult spaces, so as not to interrupt the concentration of other readers. I question the value of a new library building when the library policies and set up are so antithetical to and unsupportive of young readers.
