Not sure how or why his treatment towards my case was different from the other reviews. I hired him to do 3 specific tasks and not only did he do none of them, but he also never responded to emails or texts messages for almost a month. I wonder if this is because he took my case by speaking with me over the phone regarding all the details. After eventually meeting me in person was when he started going silent. Not sure what that could mean but I have a few ideas. If you need communication sooner than 3 weeks I wouldn’t recommend this lawyer. Not sure if it’s considered a scam or not as he took over a grand and literally did nothing I asked him to do, that he said he would do. He will tell you what he “can” do to get you to hire him, and then literally never acted on a single one of those tasks for over 4 months. he literally accomplished nothing I asked and then had the audacity to ask for more money. This was my experience. Even when I marked emails as urgent and let him know I needed a response to help my situation he still was silent as a ghost. I’d pick another lawyer if I could do it again.

Joe McKeown really helped me out in a very difficult time. He's incredibly knowledgeable and will make sure that you are completely understanding of what's going on and what's coming every step of the way in your case. Joe specifically helped me get residential custody of my son so he could stay in the same school district when my ex and I divorced. I was worried that my ex would try to pull my kid into a different school and just wanted to provide my child the stability I knew he needed and deserved in a time that was very difficult for us both. Joe helped me in so many different ways. He helped me understand my rights, used his extensive experience to help guide me through every step of the process, and ultimately helped me secure residential custody of my son so that I could continue to send him to the school he has always attended. Joe was very empathetic of my situation, understanding of how difficult it was for me, and was very fair with his hours/billing. I would hate for anyone to have to go through something as stressful and hectic as a divorce, but if you find yourself in that situation you will be in good hands with Joe representing you. He will absolutely give you his full attention and I really felt like he was in my corner when I really needed someone there. I was very pleased with the service that Joe provided, will use him again if I ever have a need, and whole-heartedly recommend him for anyone that might need a family or divorce lawyer.

Mr. McKeown's (in my case) handling of my situation was the COMPLETE opposite. He was always up front with me, never lied. It was a very traumatic time for me. He guided me every step of the way, and the process always happened as he said it would. He took my calls or returned them promptly. He never overcharged me or wasted my time or money on frivolous talk or negotiations. He took control of all meetings with the ex and his attorney. I strongly feel that no other attorney could have possibly represented me better. I HIGHLY recommend him if one is (unfortunetly) in need of a divorce attorney..

He has 30+ years experience and knows just about everybody at the Lake County Courthouse. He calls it like it is, does not waste your money on unnecessary wrangling (unless you tell him to). He'll advise you on what to expect and get it right every time (he did in my case). He's not cheap, but is very fair when it comes to fees. He's simply an all-around nice guy to deal with.
