My experience with attorney Sean was a complete nightmare. Despite assuring me he could handle the complex custody situation where my children were taken by their paternal aunt via manipulation and grooming, he overpromised and SEVERELY underdelivered. The opposing counsel made him look like a complete amateur in court, it was honestly embarrassing. I paid over $20,000, filed bankruptcy, and got nothing in return. Sean's arrogance, rudeness, and incompetence were evident throughout. He threw a tantrum and abandoned my case because I chose to settle, leaving me with another attorney who, was sympathetic and a true blessing, however couldn't salvage the mess. Although he did not attend any of the court hearings or participate in any of the email/phone communications, Sean continued to bill me at a partner rate for "consulting" with the junior attorney, doubling my expenses. I suspect collusion with the opposing counsel, as I walked away with nothing but exorbitant fees, emotional distress, and a shattered sense of parental rights. This firm is a colossal waste of time and money, devoid of empathy or concern for your well-being. Avoid at all costs.

No one ever thinks they will go through a divorce. They think a divorce will never happen to them. Unfortunately, a divorce usually comes during a time that you least expect it. It's not very often that you are well prepared and think, no problem I will hire John or Jane Doe to help me with that need, if that were to happen. You usually find yourself scrambling, asking around if they know of an excellent divorce attorney and if they could make an introduction to them or searching around for someone to hire off the internet to help you out.

Working with Steve Lake and his team was something that I treasured. Steve has a unique ability to make you feel calm and that everything is going to work out, but it also takes time. I chose to hire an experienced, boutique law firm & attorney vs. a large law firm in Chicago. My ex-wife chose to hire a larger law firm, I chose experience over size. I believe this decision protected me, my family and my multiple businesses. Matter of fact, when I first met Steve, I shook his hand after our interview (on both sides) and after the meeting I said to him while shaking his hand, "Thank you for working your entire life to protect people like me who have worked extremely hard to get to where I am in life."

Steve Lake is very effective when it matters in a divorce. From personal experience and observation, he often becomes the voice of reason during this difficult process. I have even witnessed it where the Judge looked to Mr. Lake as the voice of reason on what to do next. I felt very good and at ease that he was representing me when I observed that.

What was most important to me in my divorce was getting a fair parenting plan for my young child. Steve and his office did a very good job fighting for my parenting time. You can always make more money. You don't get your time back, especially with your children. This was a very important matter for me and I am pleased with the end result.
