This person has to be the laziest lawyer licensed to practice. He charged me over $3,000 dollars, for a divorce case, showed up late to the first hearing, refused to allow me to see my soon to be ex husbands Divorce response, I received it a week later in the mail after he allowed the other lawyer to write the offers, I would have never agreed to, he spent most of his time arguing that I should just settle without challenging anything! He charged me for- phone conferences hours at a time that never occurred and after being paid informed me he did not write motions, did not write Petitions, refused to seek a Protective Order, missed phone calls and when he did call he spent his time "advising" me to just walk away and let the Bastard have everything. I fired him. He then sent an invoice over a year later-after I filed a complaint- padding his charges! He charged for Phone conferences he even missed! He openly makes sexual remarks and is unprofessional! Donate you money to charity where at least someone would get something for it! The Disciplinary Board refused to even hear a case against him-so much for that worthless Office! Another family member of mine was in court with the opposing party having Cordell as a lawyer, and they proved he encouraged his client to lie on the stand. He needs to be removed from the WV Bar along with 3/4 of Berkeley County Court Judges and law enforcement-they are 10x worse than those they claim to serve. There aren't enough stars to rate Cordell low enough!

Dishonest lawyer, which we all lawyers are dishonest however, when your dishonest with your own clients it makes it worse over charged a friend for a custody case he did not do anything he agreed to do in the contract and then tried to charge an additional fee for hours worked that were not and refuses to give an outline of what these charges are for, furthermore he did not rectify any messed up court documents which is his job. I would not recommend this lawyer to anyone unless you have tons of money to blow, inappropriate to all females including my grandmother during a conference call. One day this man will be charged with sexual harassment for what he says to people.

I used him several years ago, all he did was collected my money and have no objection to anything that was proposed by the opposing attorney, like home appraisals that was overly inflated and presented to him the morning of court and no time to seek a second appraisal or even attempted to request for one. Also I had to raised the flag about not requesting for what was on my 401k before I got married to my ex, he was just going to let them split that in equal distribution without considering what I had put in for five years before I got Married. All I can say is you are better off to go in front of the judge by yourself rather that waste your money in hiring him

Joe is by far the worst lawyer. He charged me $2500 for a custody case that he did nothing for. He was late to the first hearing that he charged me 2.5 hours for in the breakdown which actually took less then 30 mins. He started flirting with me from the start. He is very inappropriate. During our conference before each hearing all he wanted to talk about was my 18 year old sister that was waiting outside. This man Is a straight up PIG! I paid him to be my lawyer for my custody case which isn’t even over. The actual case is in November and he thinks he’s going to charge me another $1300... to do what... nothing again. The first hearing the judge went off on him and didn’t want to hear a word he had to say. The 2nd hearing I did most of the talking. I wish I had heard what I did about this pig before I actually handed over my hard earned money. I even heard from a police officer how much of a pig he is. I got screwed and hopefully anyone else looking into using his services turns and runs. If your a female PLEASE... use someone else! BE WARNED!!

One of the most unprofessional attorneys I’ve ever met. He felt the need to flirt and be vulgar towards my mother, and had no intentions of talking legal about my case. He literally sat and wanted to tell stories about his life for 30 minutes. So glad it was a free consultation because I would not even had paid him a penny. He doesn’t even deserve the one star I was required to leave.

I don't see how he could have done a better job. He has been in practice for many years, he knew the law backwards, and he seemed to have a good personal relationship with the judge and other court personnel. They all seemed to be his friends.

I wonder how many of the negative reviews here were written by Joe's opponents in court. Also, Joe practices family law, and he handles a lot of divorces. Divorces bring out a lot of anger. Angry people write internet reviews.

In my experience, Joe is a competent, experienced, hard working, ethical attorney and all-around nice guy. I would hire him again with no hesitation.

He is a serious, experienced attorney with a good sense of humor. I really appreciated his help with the divorce. After I talked with him for a few minutes during the consultation, I decided that he was just what I needed. It worked out the way I hoped.
I don't understand the bad reviews posted here. They don't describe what I experienced AT ALL.

Worst decision I made was hiring Mr. Cordell! Save your money and LOOK ELSEWHERE!
He was unfair with final prices, misleading, dishonest, and completely inappropriate towards me (and my mother). I feel like he rushed/ conned me and I wish I never hired him!!
