Run, don't walk, as far away from this place as you can. A month ago, my wife and I brought our taxes in to be done by Karen. Between moving from another state mid-year, buying a house, and one of us being self employed, we had complicated taxes and wanted to go somewhere with more expertise than say HR Block. It took three weeks, which given how early in the year it was was a surprise to me. When we arrive on the day we are told to, Karen is not there, so we have to go over our taxes with her husband, who is not and has never been an accountant. We pointed out that it seemed off that the state we lived in during Q1 of last year was giving all our withholdings back to us. He couldn't explain it but just kept saying "well if Karen did them they've gotta be right". Later on, my wife wasn't convinced of this, did some research, and realized that they had indeed made a big mistake, changing both of our state tax results. Of course our returns had already been accepted by both states already. What was supposed to be a day or two to amend the taxes took yet another week. When we went in again today, we still did not meet with Karen at first. We finally asked to speak with her, to air some of these concerns and frustrations, but she was incredibly dismissive and flippant with us. She just said "oh it was a computer error, it assumed you lived in IL the whole year. oops". If I wanted someone to just plug some numbers into a computer without any critical thinking about the results, I could screw up my own taxes all by myself, and not have to pay $600 to do it. She came highly regarded, so this was a big surprise and a big disappointment. It was not even being sorry about it that was the cherry on top for me. The young man who went over the amendments with us today was far more professional than she was.

(also, this is petty, but their fish tank is WAY too small, it was just sad is all)

I've been coming to Eberhart Accounting for several years--ever since I realized that I was losing money by doing my taxes myself. i was saving on fees but not getting all the deductions I deserved. They work hard to make sure they don't miss any deductions and research the tricky situations I bring up to get me the right answer. Their fees are reasonable and they get my return done quickly. The owner also took time to give me some advice for next year at no charge. I highly recommend!
