My wife and I did our estate planning with Don Shaw Law at the end of 2024. Don was very upfront with all the aspects of an estate plan (to include trusts, POA, will, medical directive, etc), which is tailored to your specific situation. The initial consultation with Don was well received...no pressure, with an enormous amount of common sense ideas about working a plan. Don broke down the various aspects of a plan in terms that are digestible and with terms that are easier to understand than trying to decipher the intricacies of legal ease. It's an intricate process that can be done with excellent guidance. There are things the client has to do after the plan is set, but it is necessary and will help you to gain control of all the things we accumulate over time with regards to online accounts, websites, email accounts, etc. The plan is something that will help your family...it's a benefit for the family, and you can establish your wishes for your personal situation. We used Don Shaw Law to have a will, a trust, power of attorney, and HIPAA information. We had one long meeting at the beginning, where we discussed what was important to us and what we needed to protect. Then we did some homework on what we wanted to put in the will and the trust. The whole process was carefully explained, we could phone and ask a question at any time, and he truly gave us an excellent presentation on what to do, and what not to do ,when you are setting up these kinds of papers! He is extremely knowledgeable about the law in Virginia, and is very comprehensive in helping you store and access your documents. Don gave us very good advice on how to include our assets, how we tell our family members what we are doing, and was also very careful to write the documents in such a way that they are Mostly impervious to any kind of misunderstanding or lawsuit in the future.

My husband is a lawyer, and he felt that everything there was very clear and helpful. Don has other associates, and an excellent office manager. We feel very comfortable with him having our information and helping us to keep it safe and available when we need it.

No one wants to write a will, but we all need to do it! We would highly recommend Don Shaw law as a good partner in figuring out these important documents.
