​Insurance selection can be daunting.
Here's some advice on how to make sure you're getting your money's worth.
Find out the insurance company's rating on settling claims.

​My father has always been the person to fix or repair what we had. He didn't believe in false damages. Now after years of patching his roof, he had to have a roofer look at it. The roofer stated that even if your insurance does not use me, you have replaced 15 or more shingles, which should come under your wind and hail damage.

American Family Insurance Company sent their adjuster out and the result was they would not pain 1 cent. Every insurance company he went to said he had a black mark on his record that he had filed a claim -- even though there was no payout.

Now my husband and I put in a claim with American Family and their adjuster said they would only allow us $762 to repair. We didn't agree so we repaired ourselves and didn't take a cent from American Family Insurance. Fast forward - they send us a letter the beginning of September that they were dropping us effective Sept 28. We had a hefty premium with them. (Our home, umbrella, 5 cars, 2 other specialty vehicles, 2 cabins, multiple watercraft, etc.) ​

​Even more disappointing - our agent never called to tell us nor has she followed up with us since.

Only claim we did have with them was just recently on a vehicle where we were NOT at fault. Besides having to wait forever for the insurance company to give us approval to get the vehicle fixed - the AT-FAULT driver (was uninsured) so on top of all of this - we had to pay $500 out of pocket alone to get the vehicle fixed​. Think we'll ever see that $500 once they collect it from her - probably not.

After looking into other insurance companies to get quotes, we found the same coverage for considerably less (meaning double digits).

RECOMMENDATION:
Check references not only on your insurance company's coverage performance but also your agent. Insurance can be costly and if you're throwing money into the wind to a ghost -- it's not worth anything!
